This concert will be a rare performance of Handel’s oratorio Theodora, a masterpiece of musical drama, packed with wonderful solo arias and duets, and some of Handel’s most emotionally charged choruses. Theodora was little known until Glyndebourne Opera staged the work to great acclaim in 1996. It is still rarely performed by choral societies, being eclipsed by the overwhelming popularity of Messiah. This will be Southampton Philharmonic Choir’s first performance of the work. The orchestra will be The Hanover Band, a period instrument ensemble of international repute. Not to be missed!
