Verdi – Requiem

Southampton Philharmonic Choir
Southampton University Philharmonic Choir
New London Sinfonia
David Gibson conductor

Tickets on sale from 17 April 2019.

In the beautiful setting of Winchester Cathedral, the SPC once again perform Verdi's remarkable Requiem, without scores – it's an experience not to be missed!

Verdi's Requiem is a work unashamedly theatrical in style, in which moments of great tenderness and simplicity are juxtaposed with passages of the most powerful and thrilling intensity. Few choral works have captured the public imagination in the way that Verdi's Requiem has.  The soaring, lyrical melodies, which lie perfectly for the human voice; the scintillating orchestration, and the work's extraordinary dramatic and emotional depth – all contribute to the Requiem's status as one of the icons of Western choral music.

To communicate these dramatic extremes to full effect, Southampton Philharmonic Choir and the SU Phil will be ditching their scores entirely for the performance.  Performing with the choirs – and with scores! – will be the New London Sinfonia and four professional soloists, and the whole ensemble will be under the baton of the Phil's professional conductor, David Gibson.

The performance starts at 7.30pm.
Tickets £34, £29, £24, £18, £12. There is a booking fee of £1 per ticket (capped at £5 per transaction); concessions available.
