From War to Peace: A Choral Concert – 80 Years On
With the Alkyona Quartet
Southampton Philharmonic Choir returns to Turner Sims with the Southampton University Philharmonic Choir, under the direction of David Gibson, for a moving choral concert that invites remembrance and reflection through powerful, contemporary music. The programme also features music from the Alkyona Quartet.
Titled Reflection, at the heart of the concert is the choral suite from Karl Jenkins’ The Armed Man: A Mass for Peace — a bold and deeply moving reflection on the brutality of war and the longing for peace. Alongside it are lustrous works by some of today’s most celebrated choral composers: Eric Whitacre, Ola Gjeilo, Christopher Tin, Elaine Hagenberg, Sarah Quartel, and Morten Lauridsen.
From the haunting echoes of conflict to the luminous promise of peace, this concert is a moving tribute to the past, and a hopeful vision for the future. With rich harmonies, soaring melodies and global influences, it’s an evening of remembrance, renewal, and the unifying power of music.
